CLIMATE CRISIS

20 July 2023

One thing has led to another and it's time to talk about this.

"Dangerous climate change is not a distant threat. It's part of the world we live in here and now, with impacts that are already heartbreaking and are poised to escalate to be truly catastrophic. Beyond destabilizing the climate, humans are unravelling the web of life on Earth; we are the asteroid currently se on a collision course.

But humanity is a conscious asteroid; we can choose to change course. Importantly, it's the Exploitation Mindset, not some inevitable fact of human nature, that is driving us to the brink of devastation. Science has documented the problems in excruciating detail and has a plethora of solutions to stabilize the climate and the living world waiting in the wings, but science itself won't save us. What will is a wave of people rising up and joining together to weave care, increased resilience, and decreased harm throughout our lives and societies. Making these changes in how we treat nature and one another is how we will make the transition to a fossil-free and regenerative world. The fate of the planet and its inhabitants rests with our stewardship today.

We are living under the sky we make. We have made it with our behaviour, and we can remake it that way too. Rather than extrapolating the current darkness to despair, we need to work backward from the world we want to find a path there, in order to create a world we love rather than one we fear.

Will humanity manage to throw all we've got into actually fixing the world we're breaking? Will we accept our responsibility to get at least half the job done by 2030, or will we miss our last clear chance to avoid catastrophic climate change?"

I hope you're scared. I am. But I'm also done accepting things the way they are. I hate things the way there are.

It's time for change.

Big change.

I'll be going over some ways we can start to do this in my following posts.
